Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Today, it is fitting for God’s people to offer public thanks for all the gifts we have received. The bountiful produce of the earth is a visible sign of the many blessings God wants to shower on us through Christ (see Eph 1:3-10). Our God also wants us to share the goods of the earth with all people [from the Candian Ordo].
God, whose gifts are countless and whose goodness is without limit, teach us, we pray, to use wisely the rich blessings of land and sea, to be attentive to the needs of others, and to give as freely as we have received, that we may, in the joy of your house, delight one day in eternal rewards. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. [Roman Missal, Collect of today’s Mass].
