The Holy Father has accepted the resignation of Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane, due to his having reached the canonical age of retirement of bishops, and this became effective on November 14, 2011.  Benedict XVI also appointed Bishop Geoffrey Jarrett of Lismore as Apostolic Administrator of Brisbane until a new Archbishop is appointed to the see.

A document has been circulated that helpfully explains the role of an Apostolic Administrator.  See it here: Role of Apostolic Administrator.
