A calendar…?
Hmmm – well there’s a switch above it isn’t there? – maybe it’s a wonderful church with three separate confessionals, and the little windows light up when they are in use; or else it could be three separate Emergencies, glass to break thereof – maybe you have to choose your emergency.
Or it could be the Dumb Waiter control, which sends your gin-and-tonic to one of three rooms – or even, at a pinch, it could even be one of those very clever goldfish bowls which are built into walls these days – three windows to observe the fish.
I would venture to guess it is some sort of updated (at the time) version of the bell to ring for “the help” with some sort of visual indication which of three possible rooms has just rung.
